New Rules for Ads That Relate to Politics in Washington State

Facebook Business

We’re committed to protecting elections on Facebook. We’ve built tools to authorize advertisers, and given people more information about the ads they see.

The Washington State Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) recently adopted new rules for disclosures on advertising on digital communication platforms, including Facebook. These new rules go into effect on December 31, 2018.

Starting December 28, Facebook will not accept ads that relate to Washington's state or local elected officials, candidates, elections or ballot initiatives while we look to address these new disclosure requirements. Advertisers will still be able to run ads related to issues of national importance in Washington State.
