Updating Our Business Terms

Facebook Business

To help businesses better understand their rights and responsibilities when using our products, today, Facebook is making a series of updates to our business terms.

  • We’re launching new global Data Processing Terms that will not only apply to advertisers subject to GDPR, but also to other advertisers worldwide. These new terms will help those advertisers that, in accordance with their local laws, require a data processing agreement to use Facebook Business Tools or Customer List Custom Audiences.
  • We’re updating our Business Tools Terms. Amongst other changes, we are incorporating a Joint Controller Addendum to clarify the responsibilities of Facebook Ireland and businesses subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We recommend that all businesses that use tools such as social plugins, SDKs or Pixel, and are subject to GDPR, update their privacy policies where necessary to reflect this change.
  • A new set of Data Security Terms will outline already existing practices and standards for keeping data secure, such as descriptions of security controls at our data centers, to answer common security questions from our clients and partners.
  • We’re also making a few changes to our Customer List Custom Audience Terms, Self-Serve Ad Terms and Commercial Terms to make these clearer and easier to understand.

All of the above changes will go into effect on August 31, 2020. Our State-Specific Terms, which were updated on June 22, 2020 and apply to advertisers sharing personal information about people in California through certain Facebook Products, go into effect today.

We’re also simplifying our Platform Terms and Developer Policies to provide clearer guidance around data use restrictions and outline the fundamental rights and responsibilities of developers using our platform. You can learn more about those changes.
