Staying Safe and Secure Online When Working from Home During COVID-19

Facebook Business

As more people turn to technology and move to working from home due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, online security is top of mind for businesses of all sizes. We want to provide a few simple online safety tips that people can use to help their business Page stay secure while staying connected with customers and their community during this time.

1. Protect Your Passwords

Don’t reuse the same password you use somewhere else online.

Make it complex and hard to guess. Learn more about creating a strong password in our Privacy Checkup tool.

2. Turn On Login Alerts

You can turn on login alerts in our Privacy Checkup tool. If you turn these alerts on, we’ll let you know if someone tries logging into your account from a device or browser we don’t recognize. Within Instagram you can also enable two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security to your account.

3. Review Your Logins

You can review Where You’re Logged In on Facebook within Settings > Security and Login. Learn what to do if you don’t recognize a location in the Where You’re Logged In section. To help prevent unrecognized logins, make sure to close out past sessions on computers and devices you’re not using. You can also proactively keep your phone number and email address up to date in your account so we can help you log in if you forget your password.

4. Watch Out For Phishing and Scams

Don’t click on suspicious links and report messages asking for personal information or money, or from someone claiming to be a friend or family member in an emergency. We will never ask you for your password in an email. Learn more about avoiding scams on Facebook and Instagram.

We continue to explore how we can support businesses through this challenging time. Learn about our Small Business Grants program and access our Business Resource Hub to see additional opportunities we’re offering and steps we’re recommending. Get the latest updates on how Facebook is responding to the coronavirus outbreak.
